Mediroyal DYFEX Hand Splint
The Mediroyal DYFEX Hand Splint combines two air bladders to provide patients with spasticity support to the transversal and longitudinal arches of the hand. The splint can be easily adjusted, and comes in a choice of sizes for a more supportive and comfortable fit.
Who Is the DYFEX Hand Splint For?
DYFEX stands for Dynamic Finder Extension, which is a concept specially designed for patients with spasticity. The splint is ideal for patients looking to protect their hands, as the air bladders provide targeted support to the transversal and longitudinal hand arches.
It is also a reliable alternative of support for patients undergoing treatment with botulinum toxin, as it can be quickly adjusted to meet the patient’s progress and changing conditions.
How Does the DYFEX Hand Splint Work?
The Mediroyal DYFEX Hand Splint features an adjustable aluminium frame, with the two air bladders integrated into the finger platform. The first bladder is underneath the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints to provide light pressure under the MCP arch. The second bladder is situated just in front of this to support the intrinsic muscles that extend the proximal IP (PIP) and distal IP (DIP) joints.
The relationship between the static aluminium frame and dynamic air bladders provides a slow and constant stretch of the flexor tendons.
How Can the DYFEX Hand Splint Be Adjusted?
The frame of the Hand Splint can be altered to best fit the patient. This will be particularly useful for patients in rehabilitation, as it can help to monitor their development and progress. The wrist angle, finger platform, and position of the thumb can all individually be adjusted for optimal comfort.
There is a strap over the upper part of the hand and attached to the radial side, which provides stability when the wrist is flexed. There are also two straps around the lower arm for stable positioning.
Sizing of the DYFEX Hand Splint
The DYFEX Hand Splint is available in three sizes for both the right and the left hand. To find the correct size, measure your hand width over the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints.
